My aunt Jennifer and uncle Denis are headed to Hawaii for 10 days and they needed someone to take care of their dog. I heard about it and jumped at the chance for tripartite reasons (love that word): I love dogs, I love Seattle, and I wanted to see my sister Julie and her family. My sister lives just outside of Seattle and I haven't made it up to see her in about 5 years. She has four kids and the two youngest may not even remember ever meeting me (Ashley for sure - she was only 2 months old at the time). I booked my flight yesterday and am really excited to go.

June 25, 2002 was the day I returned home from a mission in Brazil and ever since then I have been dying to go back. My friend Maggie also served a mission down in Brazil and she just received a grant from the university to go to Rio to study Brazilian music over the summer. As I was congratulating her on the grant she mentioned that after her program ended she wanted to travel all around Brazil for a week or two, but she couldn't really do it unless she had a travel partner. I immediately said that I would go down and meet her. I am soooooo excited - we haven't worked out a definite plan yet (our plan may or may not have a tripartite structure), but we want to go everywhere and see everything. I'm mailing off my passport renewal form today and I should be good to go at the beginning of July.

Right after I get back from Brazil I will head out to Cambridge, New York to play Ferrando in Mozart's opera Così fan tutte with the Hubbard Hall Opera Theater. I got this gig after receiving an email from my advisor from this company saying that they had already held auditions but they wanted to see a few more tenors before they made their final casting decisions. So I sent them a resumé and a video clip of me singing the character's main aria and two weeks later they hired me for the job.
It's a great opportunity for tripartite reasons: It will look great on my resumé, it will fulfill one of my doctoral degree repertoire requirements, and I will get to live for a month in a small town in New England. Cambridge is a small town near about 3 1/2 hours north of New York City near the Vermont border (represented by the star on the map above). I've only briefly driven through this part of the country and I'm excited to get to spend some time there.
So that's the plan. In the weeks in between my trips I'll be here in Ann Arbor working temp jobs and concentrating on learning Così fan tutte. But you've got to admit that you're jealous - Seattle, Brazil, and New York all in one summer.
(You've also got to admit that you really enjoyed watching that old Will Smith music video. You're still humming it to yourself, aren't you?)

Sounds like a lot of fun. I would want to go to Brazil to see all the people I met down there, but I guess I don't have much desire to go as a tourist.
I want to go to Moab this summer and go biking on the Slick Rock Trail. I guess we will see what happens.
Wow, you changed your blog name. That's pretty big considering the big discussion before about the optic walrus. Did I spark a memory about the good old Brian Presents Movie night? You'll have to do a blog post to explain the new name. Make sure tell everyone how I called them Films instead of Movies and how you thought that was cool. Yup, good times. I'm also honored to find my name on your list of favorite links. I'll have to post more now. Have you checked out the English Man, it's Keith Harten, his blog is pretty fun to read too. Plus my bus blog is always full of crazy stuff.
Ate mais cara
Oh! I wish wish wish we were going to Washington at the same time! Mark and I are going to Washington for the first 3 and 1/2 weeks o' August. We're visiting his family and bringing Emily (our niece) along and she and I are going to spend some time in Forks. I miss you and I'm glad you're going to have such a great adventure this summer! Congrats on the Mozart part, again, wish I could see it.
Oh yeah, Will Smith is a major hottie.
Love ya!
